Poverty Environment Initiative project Rwanda was first launched in December 2005 and is significantly contributing to the country’s Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Strategy (EDPRS) 2008-2012 and is now extending the support to EDPRS II for the period July 2013 to June 2018.

The Programme’s aim remains to enhance the contribution of sound environmental management to poverty reduction, sustainable economic growth and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The program goes into a third phase with a new focus on long term capacity development to achieve improved sustainable management of natural resources, clean renewable energy resources and use, environment and climate change resilience.
